Our School Trip.

Room One went to the Howick Historical Village for our school trip.  We saw many things from the olden days.  We played with some wooden toys.  We made our own butter and we ate it on a cracker.  We had an awesome, rainy, tired, cool day!

Maths Slide.

We need to look at the pictures and work out the number sentence, e.g. 2 + 2.  Then we need to figure out the answer.  Last we have to slide the right answer up.  This is a game we can play with a friend in Room 1.

"I like playing this game with my friend because we can both win sometimes.  I can count all of the fingers and slide the number.  That's how you can win.  But somebody else might swipe it first and then they are the winner.  I don't really like it when they win."

Reading Games.

We play games at Reading time to help us to get smarter at Reading!

"I am playing the animals game and you have to put the dog one with the dog picture.  I am good at this game because it is easy for me to look at the animals.  Next time I would like to play the vegetable game and it's the same like the animals one, but it's harder to match the apple card with the apple picture."

My Shadow Writing.

We read a poem about shadows.  We wanted to make shadows in the sunshine but it rained and rained, so Mrs Kerr brought her lamp to school.  We made shadows on the whiteboard.  If we stood close to the lamp, our shadow was bigger and when we stood close to the whiteboard, our shadow was smaller.  We made a pattern using Kidpix and coloured it in with pastels.  Here is my picture and my story.

"I saw my shadow and it is fantastic.  My shadow is silvery."

My Scarecrow.

Here is my fantastic scarecrow!  First, I read a poem about a scarecrow.  Then I sketched one and Mrs Kerr blew it up on the photocopier.  I coloured my picture with pastels and glued on his flippy, floppy hat.

Writing About Clouds.

We read a poem about clouds.  We went outside and we looked into the sky to see the clouds.  Some of them were shapes we know.  We wrote about what we saw and Mrs Kerr helped us to publish our writing.

"The cloud was a whale shape and it was up on the sky.  I also saw a lizard shaped cloud but I didn't see the heart one.  I like the words in the whale and there are some words in the whale's eye and I can read them."

Numbers In Between.

I am playing - Monkey in the Middle.  I have to look at the two monkeys on the card and choose which number goes in between.  I play lots of Maths games in Room 1 because its a cool, fun way to learn new things and to get better and better.

"It's hard to play this game because it is so tricky to put the right monkey in the middle.  I can do it right the first time but it takes a while."

Reading Eggs.

We are learning to use Reading Eggs at school and at home.  I can choose the games I want to play and my friend can choose the same game or a different game.  Some games have alphabet letters and some games have words.  For the really hard games, I have to read a whole sentence.

"I am playing Reading Eggs at school.  I can log in by myself and I have done it before.  If I make a mistake, I can just fix it.  My favourite game is when you do the penguin game.  You have to hop to where all the other penguins are.  You have to listen and then click 'play' and then you play it."

Sketching a Honeybee.

When we are sketching at school, we do a quick sketch first.  Then we do a very slow, careful sketch with the teacher, and these look amazing!  Here is my honeybee in the hive.

Publishing My Writing.

This is the story I wrote in my book and then I typed the words by myself on the computer.  My picture matches my words.

"It's tricky writing my name on the laptop because I can't find the letter to press on."

Look What I Can Read!

"This is my reading book and I read it to Mum at my house.  It was a little bit tricky to read because some words are hard.  I can find the word-of-the-week because I listen to Mrs Kerr and then I look for the right word."

Ordering Numbers.

This game is on Sunshine Online.  The monkey and the orangutan and the gorilla are eating all of the bananas and I am counting them too.

"I can count the bananas up to ten.  The monkey, he eat six bananas.  The next number is seven and then eight.  The number in front of five would be six, no I mean four."

We are learning to write our numbers by ourselves and to put them into the right order.

"I can write my numbers up to 5.  The numbers 2 and 3 are a little bit tricky.  I can do number 3 because I tried on the paper and it goes 0, 0, to make a 3 and you turn it together."

I Can Read.

I am learning to read and write the word - can - this week at school.  Here it is in my reading book.

"Reading is easy because I like the books and I can read them.  At home, I read my book to Mummy and sometimes Tristan is listening to me."

My Writing.

This is my first week at school this year.  I wrote a story.  First I drew my picture.  Next I told Mrs Kerr my story.  She wrote the words for me and I copied underneath.

"It was a little bit tricky to write the words because some words are hard.  I like my picture because there is a big toy house at my playground and it's for kids to go inside."
